Madrid was the first European city I had ever been to…and I loved it! The food was AMAZING!!! Every dish I had was pure perfection…and I’m kind of a foodie. I booked a ticket on a hop-on hop-off bus, and was able to do most of my to-do list in a day.
Although I was only there for 4 days, I was able to eat chocolate con churros at San Gines, Madrid’s oldest chocolateria, visit the Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas, Spain’s largest bullfighting ring. get lost in Madrid’s winding narrow streets, and find myself amongst buildings that were awe-inspiring. I spent an evening sitting on the rooftop balcony of my hotel, drinking wine and eating tapas, while watching the sky transform into hues of pink and purple.

Plaza de Toros de los Ventas: Although bullfighting is banned in most countries, it still remains in parts of Spain and Portugal. Las Ventas, one of the largest in the world, was inaugurated in 1931 and still remains open today.

Plaza Mayor is located in the centre of Old Madrid, one of the oldest parts of the city. It was build in 1580-1619, first commissioned by King Phillip II and completed during the rein of King Phillip III. In the centre of the square, is a bronze statue of King Phillip III on a horse. It was created in 1616, but wasn’t placed in the square until 1848, under the ordered of Queen Isabel II.
