Hungarian Parliament Building was built between 1885-1904, and is the seat of the National Assembly of Hungary.
In 1873, Budapest was created by uniting three cities-Buda, Pest and Obuda. The Parliament (referred to as the Diet of Hungary) announced the need for a new representative parliament building. A competition began. The chosen design was chosen so because it resembled that of the Palace of Westminster in London. Leading Hungarian politicians believed that it was crucial that the country’s new parliament should symbolise their commitment to Western Europe, especially Britain. What better way to do so, than to replicate Britain’s own parliament.
