Bali was an unexpected surprise.  I went only because it was a short flight from Adelaide, Australia (my second home), and I’m so glad that I did.  I stayed in Ubud and it was just so easy and relaxing.   I arrived with zero expectations, and genuinely enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere. My hotel, the Ubud Inn Cottages, was also unexpectedly blissful, from the room, to the staff, even down to the resident bat…and it was a short walk to most of the local sites.  Even getting caught in the torrential downpour was enjoyable; just walk into the nearest cafe, order a latte, and take in the views of the rice fields.
